Shine Sprites are the collectibles in Super Mario Sunshine. They made several appearances throughout the "Double Dash" era (2002-2008). Their appearances began to decrease after 2009 however. They appear in SMG4's videos with a few minor appearances but their most prominent appearance was in SMG4: Stupid Mario Sunshine where an unknown figure is graffiting Delfino Island disguised as Mario. The Piantas decide not to let Mario leave until he finds all the Shine Sprites and removes the Graffiti. Characters such as Polluted Piranha Plant have kidnapped a good chunk of Shine Sprites. Il Piantissimo also has a Shine Sprite which he gives to Mario after he wins the race with him. Shine Sprites also have other appearances.
